Time a brief directional ward against eligible incoming attacks.
Discover it, then study
Successfully block an attack with a physical shield. At the Spell Bench, Protego’s direct study input is one shield, with no learned-spell predecessor. A shield merely involved in some other discovery is not automatically a consumed ingredient.
What it helps you do
The base spell is a brief directional projectile ward, not a dome of invulnerability. Upgrade directions are wider coverage or shorter recovery. Learned Protego leads to Finite and Aegivara, and an eligible projectile deflection helps discover Ventirra.
Cooldowns, limits and refusal
The base cooldown is 10 seconds. Spruce extends ward duration by 0.25 seconds; refined amethyst reduces the cooldown by 1 second under shared player/effect rules. Swapping wands cannot reset it. Direction and projectile eligibility still matter; exact base ward duration is not specified.
Study and upgrade materials
Learn Protego with one shield at the Spell Bench. The shield is an explicit consumed study input, separate from the personal successful-block discovery; no learned predecessor is required.
